Drugs are BAD!! (and totally unflattering)

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Whoa. My best friend just sent me this link to The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, and if you’re adventurous, check it out. Now, like most of us, I’ve dabbled with the occasional recreational drug, but I’ve never done meth—and I sure as hell don’t want to do it after looking at these before & after photos!

It’s hard to talk about drugs/drug-use without sounding preachy or “soap-boxy” but seriously, who would do that to themselves? I mean, no one starts smoking with the idea that they’ll be an iron-lung, voice-box, lung cancer patient—and I guess it’s the same with everything else. But check out those grotesque physical deformities! They have to know it’s not “good” for them, right? And how come the women look SO much worse than the men? With most of the guys it’s like, “Whoa! He grew a beard and has crazy hair and bloodshot eyes!” but with the women it’s like, “Holy CRAP! Who ran over her with a bus?”

…and on a lighter, more catty note, check out the hair on this guy—homie needs to stay away from the electrical sockets!

Uh, what are you doing in the toilet?

baby Alex
That’s me! How cute was I? And WFT was I doing in the potty? Actually, it’s a bidet, if you want to get technical. I love wacky baby pics. Can’t wait to have kids of my own and put them in funny places! I know, I know: kids have more than one use–but that’s gotta be one of ‘em, right?
ps-I miss footy pajamas.

Today’s top 5

*Heroes. What’s going to happen next? I’m loving the Claire Bennett & family storyline. Her dad’s not evil after all–who knew! And when is Mohinder going to realize he’s cavorting with evil Syler!! Argh! Plus, Peter Petrelli is a total hottie (somehow he’s grown on me since his days on Gilmore Girls), and I love bad-ass Niki/Jessica.

*CHOCOLATE!! (Click here for the best study ever.)

*Heat. No, seriously. It is so freaking cold in NYC, I think I might die.

*Ellie Krieger on the food network. Easy, healthy, cheap recipes. (and she only kind of looks like an alien.)

*Reverend Amy Hondo! —My best friend is going to officiate at my wedding. How cool is that?! I mean, who wouldn’t want to be married by this cutie? Amy

Cake-tastic!!

Monday, March 5th, 2007

The biggest perk of getting married: going to a cake tasting!! Many of the wedding planning decisions have been hugely stressful and confusing, but lemme tell ya, the cake tasting was awesome. Okay, so maybe it was a little rich, and I kinda went into a sugar coma afterwards, but it was totally worth it.
Cake #1: white cake with vanilla buttercream and chocolate ganache. :) :) :)
Cake #2: white cake with praline buttercream and chocolate ganache. :(
Cake #3: white cake w/ raspberry cream and (you guessed it) chocolate ganache. :|
Cake #4: carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. :) :)

OMG, they were all amazing. (wish we’d taken pictures!) The cake lady brought us each our own plate with 1/2 a mini cake in each flavor. Do you have any idea how many calories that probably was? I don’t, and I plan on keeping it that way–but I will be hitting the gym a little harder than usual this week to make up for it!

We were instructed to eat them in order of density, so we began with the vanilla, then praline, then raspberry, then carrot. The praline was kinda gross. I had suggested Nutella to the cake lady, but she countered with the praline, and it’s just not the same. (If you’ve never had Nutella before, smear some on a piece of crusty baguette and you’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven.) The raspberry was good (and a very pretty pink color), but too sweet and a little tart. The carrot cake was uh-mazing, but probably too heavy for our June wedding. Plus, Andy’s favorite part of the carrot cake was the fruit, and I am very anti-raisins in cake. I was mostly into the spices and cream cheese frosting.
So we decided on vanilla with chocolate ganache. Does that sound too boring? I mean, I don’t want to freak out all our guests with some crazy passion fruit, pistachio combo with champagne cream filling… or do I? kidding!

But all in all it ROCKED! I’ve been excited about the cake tasting for weeks and it totally lived up the the hype. Maybe I should postpone the wedding so we can keep going on cake tastings!

My first ebay!

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Wish me luck, guys. Last night my genius boyfriend helped me set up my first sale on ebay! It’s just a shirt (a Rebecca Taylor top that I bought on sale and then realized it was too big - ooops!), but I hope it sells. Ebay is like underwater basket weaving to me (ie: totally foreign), but Andy’s a pro! He sells electronic gadgets and video games like they were going out of style–well, the one’s he’s selling probably are!
I’m so freakin’ excited about it! Why? No idea, but let me have my moment.
