Love rekindled
I never stopped liking the guy, but last night it suddenly hit me: I totally frickin’ love Robert Downey Jr!
Okay, maybe that sounds creepy. It’s not like I was just walkin’ down the street and suddenly jumped into traffic screaming “Robert Downey Jr, I wanna have your babies!!” No, it was subtler than that. I went to see Zodiac last night (meh) and Robby stole the show (and my heart–awh)! As soon as he popped up on screen I remembered how cute and talented he is, and all the good times we’ve had together: in Home For The Holidays, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Chaplin, Less than Zero, Weird Science, Wonder Boys, Scanner Darkly, Soapdish… The list goes on and on… and on, and on… (seriously, dude’s been in like, 65 movies).
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. The people next to me in the theater probably wanted to kill me because I was laughing so hard. The dialog is so good it hurts, and the story’s pretty fun too–if you’re into Noir/hard boiled flicks, which I am. I highly recommend it–but if you rent it and hate it, it’s not my fault!!
Home For The Holidays. Robby’s portrayel of Tommy, the gay, liquor-distributor brother to Holly Hunter was amazing. Overall the movie’s funny but a little uneven, but every scene with RDJ is frigging hilarious. Now, I’ve definitely heard rumors that he was mad #%&*ed up during the filming, and as a result he had a hard time shooting his scenes and barely remembers it, but he still managed to be brilliant.
Okay, I won’t go on and on, but I have to mention Soapdish because it’s a really funny movie. It has a a silly plot, based on the inner workings of a daytime soap (hmm… much like my first novel, Back Talk!), and Robby plays the sexually frustrated producer.
Oh, and Goodnight and Good Luck. It’s about the responsibility of the media, specifically in relation to anti-Communism during the McCarthy era. It’s a well acted, well directed, well shot movie made by another hottie, George Clooney.
So, the love of my life had a few run-ins with the law, and a wee bit of a drug problem. (I think we all remember the story of RDJ stumbling into the window of some child’s bedroom one night when he was totally messed up–that poor child!) But he’s drug free now (right?) and still making amazing movies—I just read about Tropic Thunder, which looks frigging awesome:
“Through a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying. Downey Jr. will play Kirk Lazarus, the greatest actor of his generation and a four-time Oscar winner.”
Yay! Can’t wait for that.
I heart you Robert Downey Jr!!
love, Alex

“As soon as he popped up on screen I remembered how cute and talented he is, and all the good times we’ve had together…”
I laughed so hard I almost cramped.
I remember seeing Robert Downey Jr. in a movie with that horrid Cybil Shepperd (did I spell that right?), don’t recall the name, but he looked hot in it. He was younger and just a ball of sexy.

The movie w/ Cybill was called “Chances Are” one of the many films in the genre of dead guys coming back in younger, hotter bodies. Pretty dumb but it did have RDJ!
And I totally concur, he made my heart go pitter-pat the moment I saw him up on the huge Zigfield screen in “Zodiac”.
More RDJ please!! (ooh, and great last pic!)

Go back too 1992 and take a look at Downey as Charlie Chaplin — uneven movie, but eye-popping talent, and got him a Best Actor nomination.
Coolest blog in the solar system!!!!!!!!
